Last week, The PRIMA Group, along with PRSSA and The Media and Communication Department, hosted the Third Consecutive Meet the Media Panel Series where local media figures come to campus to take part in panel discussions with Communications students. Throughout three days, we had a total of 15 panelists from 8 different media outlets come to give their insights on the relationship between public relations and journalism. Wednesday and Friday’s panels took place in Professor Arien Rozelle’s Intro to Public Relations and Advanced Media Relations classes. On Thursday night, the panel took place in Wilson Formal Lounge, followed by refreshments and networking. Throughout the panels, students were encouraged to live tweet using the hashtags #MeetTheMedia and #FisherComm. Panelists also took part in this by live tweeting from panels, including photos and videos of other panelists.
Wednesday’ panels consisted of Todd Clausen, Work Life Reporter from the Democrat and Chronicle; Will Cleveland, Breaking News Reporter and Beer Columnist from the Democrat and Chronicle; Lisa Famiglietti, Multimedia Producer for WXXI; and Mike Catalana, Sports Anchor from 13 WHAM.

Thursday Night’s panel consisted of Michelle Faust, Reporter and Producer for WXXI; Ed Buttaccio, News Director at Time Warner Cable News; Sarah Taddeo, Community Reporter from the Democrat and Chronicle; Chris Ford, News Director for Channel 10 WHEC; Chris Kalen, On-Air personality and Events Assistant from Jazz 90.1; and Khristopher J. Brooks, Internship and Entrepreneurship Reporter from the Democrat and Chronicle. This exciting panel discussed not only the relationship between journalism and public relations, but also the latest trends in social media. The panelists talked about how they use social media to the fullest, and how it has changed the industry.
Fridays’ panels consisted of Jason Dusett, Executive Producer for Channel 10WHEC; Jim Madalinsky, Anchor and Reporter for Channel 13 WHAM; Lori Gable, Reporter from the Rochester Business Journal; Allison Norlian, Reporter from Channel 8 WROC; and Laura Kenyon, Food Writer for the Rochester City Newspaper.

The Third Consecutive Meet The Media Panel Series was a great event enjoyed by students, faculty, and all of the panelists that joined us. More information for upcoming PRIMA Events can be found at sjfcprima.com.
